The East Bay Regional Park District is a system of beautiful parklands in Alameda and Contra Costa counties to the east of San Francisco. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING: Under direction, to design, manage and effect the construction of capital improvement projects; to meet the District’s goals and the environmental and recreational needs of the region.


IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Have experience and the ability to manage a diverse range of park improvement and maintenance projects from conceptual design through construction
  • Have the experience and technical skills to prepare construction documents for permitting, public bidding, and construction
  • Have the ability to manage consultants and contractors
  • Can clearly communicate across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Are self-motivated, resourceful, and take pride in their work
  • Exercise sound, professional judgment


OTHER FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:

Defines areas to be surveyed and provides guidance in the gathering of survey data to meet design criteria; conducts field trips to project site for prospective contractors; assists in the analysis of bids and the preparation of Board material for award of contract; assists in conducting pre-construction meeting and in final inspections; performs related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major work in Landscape Architecture; and


Experience: Five years of experience in the field of Landscape Architecture, which must include the preparation of bid documents, site planning and design experience

License: A valid license to practice Landscape Architecture from the Department of Consumer Affairs in the State of California.


SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must pass a Level 1 background check, including employment history verification, employee reference check, education verification, and criminal history review.
  • A valid California driver’s license is a condition of initial and continued employment in this classification.
  • Must possess and maintain current State mandated certifications, licenses and credentials as required to fulfill duties and satisfy regulatory mandates for this classification.
  • Current certification requirements include: Qualified Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan Developer (QSD) certificate. The Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan Developer (QSD) certificate must be obtained prior to completion of probation.
  • May be required to attend public hearings and other meetings which may be scheduled outside of normal work hours.


REPORTS TO: Design Manager

SUPERVISES: May direct the work of various classifications on a project by project basis.

Selection Process: The application materials for all applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed by a screening panel to select the best qualified for testing or interview. The District reserves the right to set up a written test, performance test, and/or other assessment procedures before or after the interview process. Possession of minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview or invitation to test. Pursuant to the Federal Immigration and Reform Act of 1986, all applicants who are hired will be required to provide proof of identity and appropriate work authorization documents prior to commencement of employment.


Union Affiliation: East Bay Regional Parks Employees, Local 2428, American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME), AFL-CIO, represents this classification. Wages, hours, and other terms of conditions of employment are covered in an Agreement between the Park District and Local 2428. The probationary period for this classification is nine (9) months.


Internal Promotions: Placement shall be made at the first step in the salary range for the new position (Step A) unless the salary rate at Step A of the new position is less than a 5% increase. In such instances, the employee will be placed at a step in the new salary range that ensures at least a 5% increase.
